GETTING THE BEST OUT OF VEGAN FEST 2017
When it comes to festivals, the seasoned vets will tell you there are tons of hacks that will make or break your experience. If you’re a first timer, don’t worry! We are here to walk you through it. Here is our festival guide to ensure you have the best time possible at the Toronto Vegan Food and Drink Festival!
TIPS AND TRICKS
- The Lines
You’re heading to a food festival, we’re all coming for the food, so expect some lines. Especially for those out of town vendors… you’re in for quite a wait, but don’t worry, it’s totally worth it. The vendors are doing their very best to serve their food as fast as possible. If you expect to be waiting, grab a beer, join the queue, and enjoy meeting some fellow vegans.
- Sharing is caring
Some vendors will be serving full portion sizes. If you want to be able to try everything, we suggest splitting your portions with friends!
- Be Entertained
This year, we have more entertainment than ever! From lawn games, to volleyball, to free henna for kids, to incredible art installations, to a bouncy castle, and even a super exciting lineup of stage events (think hot dog eating contest, beer chugging contest, and t-shirt guns). This wouldn’t be possible without our sponsors, huge thank you to Doomies, The Imperative, Manitoba Harvest, Sausage Party and Mood Water.
- Stay hydrated
We will have water refill stations this year. It’s best to keep your water supply stocked, so you can last all day! We'll also have a misting station to help guests beat the heat.
- Your Appetite
Most importantly, bring your appetite. This is an absolute necessity. We have amazing vendors attending this year, and you won’t want to miss out on any of them!
- We’re Expanding
Vegans (and future vegans) unite! The festival is getting bigger and better and we are expecting 10 thousand guests this year. We’ve got 100 vendors coming, there’s no better reason to celebrate the day than this!
- Shop Till You Drop
The incredible vegan retail store, The Imperative will be attending the festival. Make sure to save that $$$ and stop by! They’ll be selling exclusive festival merch and custom vegan tees.
- Get Connected
On your way but stuck in traffic? Follow us on Instagram for live updates at the fest. Want to win amazing prizes? Hashtag #VeganFestTO throughout the day to be entered to win. Stay tuned on our social media because Al (Vegan Food Share) and Lauren Toyota (Hot for Food Blog) will be doing a takeover and also hosting contests and games at the fest. If you’re a huge Hot for Food Blog fan like us, join Lauren by the stage for her meet and greet. You can even grab some of her merch at her booth.
- Get Your Drink On
More bars this year means more drinking! Be sure to check out all of the thirst quenching options we’ve added. Cheers to that! Also this year, no more wristbands, say hello to your new best friend - the stamp. Be sure to pick up drink tokens right away, 1 token = 1 drink! If you’re the type that likes to plan ahead, see drink menu: Alcoholic beverages (any kind): $8, Non alcoholic beverages (water and soda): $2, 32 oz rum bucket: $20. Regarding alcoholic beverages, we will be selling 16oz draft beers, 16oz canner cider, and 10oz Social Sparkling Wine all for $8 (1 drink token).
- Hands free
Bring a carry all bag or backpack because you’ll need your hands! Whether you’re eating, drinking, dancing or snapping pics, having to carry things is just going to be annoying and ruin the experience.
- Comfortable shoes
Wear comfortable shoes! The festival, like most, will be held on grassy terrain. Therefore wear shoes you can walk in on the grass, won’t cause blisters and you’ll be comfortable spending the day in.
- Bring your lounger
Don’t like to eat on the run? Feel free to bring your own portable chair or blanket.
Killer shades are a festival must have! Not only do they complete any look, you’ll be glad you have something to protect your eyes when it’s bright and sunny out!
High temperatures can mean low energy! Beat the heat by applying sunscreen before you come. We will have many more shaded areas than previous years, a sun protection bonus!
- Practical clothing
Wear something practical! The festival will be held outdoors, which means porta potties. We love rompers just as much as you do but do you really want to strip down every time you need to use the washroom?
- Wet wipes
You’ll be glad you brought something to wash your hands and face with, especially after pigging out!
- Bring cash
If you haven't already bought your tickets online, you'll be paying a $20 admission fee at the door pending availability (until they run out)! Vendors will be accepting cash only, so bring lots of it. Waiting in line to use the ATM is as annoying as those pesky service fees. Plan ahead and bring cash to the event, you’ll be happy you did!
